We are often asked how our team of midwives works at San Diego Midwife.
To be able to best serve you and to have a sustainable lifestyle from being on call 24/7, we work as a team of midwives at San Diego Midwife. You will get to know your midwives very well at each appointment but we do not assign midwives per birth or individual. You are always guaranteed one midwife and one birth assistant at your birth although we love to attend births all together as a whole team as often as we can!
Jamin Sylvada, LM, CPM
FOUNDER OF SAN DIEGO MIDWIFE
Since 2003, Jamin has been dedicated to supporting families in San Diego County with personalized care through homebirth, birth center births, and doula/monitrice services. Her journey in midwifery began in Florida, where she spent four years delivering babies in birth centers and homes before relocating to California.
Born and raised in Paris, Jamin’s passion for women’s health and midwifery was sparked at a young age. Her education spanned diverse bilingual environments, including the Waldorf School of Paris, l’Ecole Active Bilingue, and a French-Japanese school in Tokyo. During her medical studies at The Sorbonne, she interned in hospitals where midwifery-led births were the norm. After graduating in 1997, she gained extensive hands-on experience by attending hundreds of births at a Paris hospital, before her move to Florida.
To date, Jamin has assisted in over 3,000 births, bringing a wealth of experience to a wide variety of pregnancies. From delivering twins, managing breech births, to guiding mothers through vaginal births after C-sections (VBAC), Jamin is skilled in all aspects of midwifery. Her expertise includes suturing all degrees of vaginal and perineal tears, newborn resuscitation, and critical postpartum care for both mothers and babies.
Her vast experience has only deepened her excitement and passion for birth, and Jamin approaches every delivery with a present, expert eye, eager to support each family in a unique, empowering way.
For Jamin, midwifery is about empowering women through the natural birth process, whether at home or in the hospital. As a mother of two, Liam and Layla—both born in the comfort of their Encinitas home—Jamin brings her personal and professional experience to every birth, offering compassionate guidance through one of life’s most transformative experiences.
